Employer group says bosses who commit wage theft shouldn’t go to jail
Australian Industry Group says employers who underpay workers shouldn’t go to jail or face criminal penalties.
The leading employer group has produced a submission to the federal government’s industrial relations discussion paper into tougher penalties for employee exploitation.
AI Group CEO Innes Willox tells Ross Greenwood criminal charges aren’t the answer.
“That would mean the people who suffered won’t get their money any quicker, in fact, it will be slowed down because everything will have to await a criminal process.
“Mistakes get made.
“Businesses make enormous efforts to make sure that their staff are paid properly.”
