Electronic bracelets could replace hotel quarantine

Returned international travellers are being forced into hotel quarantine, and while the system works for stopping the spread of coronavirus, it seems impractical to keep absolutely everyone locked up for two weeks.

Now, the Andrews government is looking to introduce electronic monitoring devices, similar to those under house arrest, to make sure returned travellers stay home.

With a PhD under her belt and over 20 years of study in the tracking technologies field, Dr. Marietta Martinovic from RMIT believes if done safely, it’s a no-brainer. For others, it feels invasive and rather dystopian-esque.

Dr. Martinovic joins John Stanley to dispel fears about this intriguing application of GPS-devices.
