Luke Grant is joined by Senator Eric Abetz, Liberal Senator for Tasmania, who has led a group of coalition backbenchers who have broken ranks to demand urgent action on a critical port leased by a Chinese company.

The Port of Newcastle is half-owned by China Merchants Port Holdings under a deal done with the NSW Government.

The MPs fear the company could use its powers to exploit exporters so want to introduce tougher regulations to guard against punitive costs which might put in jeopardy thousands of jobs in the Hunter.
