Queenslanders stuck south of the border with their cars and caravans will have to wait until the state reaches the critical 80 per cent double dose vaccination rate to drive home.

The state government has today unveiled its expansive roadmap to reopening Queensland by the end of the year.

When the state reaches the 70 per cent double dose target, Queenslanders stranded interstate will be able to fly into Queensland if they are fully vaccinated and they have had a COVID test.

They will then have to quarantine at home.

Treasurer Cameron Dick said it was a “careful, cautious” approach forward.

But Scott Emerson asked about Queenslanders stuck south of the border, with their cars and caravans, who won’t be able to enter the state by road until December 17, when the state is forecast to reach 80 per cent double dosed.

Scott: Why not allow Queenslanders to drive back in from that 70 per cent vaccination day?

Treasurer: I accept that that is going to create some challenges for people, and I really do understand that. But the problem at 70 per cent double dose vaccination is that our state is not sufficiently protected. People who drive through, are very likely to stop somewhere, even if they are double dose vaccinated. The important messages is you can still transmit the virus.

He implored people to come out and get their jab before the end of October, saying some communities may be subject to restrictions if they haven’t got to the 80 per cent double dose target and there’s a localised outbreak.
