Hundreds of schoolies ‘rorted’ out of deposits likely not entitled to refunds
Australia’s consumer watchdog says there’s few consumer rights for schoolies ‘rorted’ out of accommodation deposits.
Hundreds of school-leavers from southern states will be unable to attend the week-long party on the Gold Coast due to border closures.
But, through no fault of their own, the majority will likely be unable to have their deposits refunded.
ACCC Deputy Chair Delia Rickard said it’ll come down to the terms and conditions of each schoolies’ contract.
“Sadly, if it doesn’t provide a refund there, you aren’t entitled to it,” she told Neil Breen.
“I would appeal to the good nature of the landlord and hopefully, particularly if they manage to rebook it, they will do the right thing.”
