Australians aged over 18 could be lining up for their COVID-19 booster shots next month.

It comes after the Therapeutic Goods Administration provisionally approved third Pfizer jabs for use in Australia.

President of the Royal College of General Practitioners, Dr Karen Price, said the Pfizer vaccine would given for the booster shot, regardless of what vaccination was given first.

“It’s going to supercharge our immunity and keep us all safe,” she told Scott Emerson.

It will be administered 6 months after the second dose is received.

Asked about whether Australians will need booster shots each year, Dr Price said it appeared so.

“We do think we will need ongoing boosters, we do think that there will be new vaccines developing going forward, and maybe they will be better than what we have already got, maybe they will move onto different parts of the virus … but it really is a bit of fortune telling at the moment.”
