Max Hitchins refers to himself as ‘Melbourne Cup Max’.

He prides himself on being able to recall the first, second and third place getters from the last 100 years of the Melbourne Cup, and he also likes to predict the winners.

“I set a goal many years ago to learn and become the most knowledgeable person in Australia about the Melbourne Cup,” he told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons.

“And of course if you’re the most knowledgeable person in Australia about the Melbourne Cup, that pretty much puts you as the most knowledgeable person in the world on the Melbourne Cup!”
