A solo trekker and her band of five camels have entered the final leg of their 5,000 kilometre journey across Australia.

Sophie Matterson embarked on the gruelling adventure from the country’s western-most point in Shark Bay to its eastern-most point in Byron Bay in April 2020, but will soon close the last chapter.

“We’re very, very near the end,” Ms Matterson told Sofie Formica from Possum Creek in Byron Bay Hills.

“The camels are doing okay, although they’re a little bit over all of this rain, I think!”

As for what’s next? Sophie’s keeping her cards close to her chest.

“There’s always more to be done, there’s always another adventure to be planned for me!”
