BORDER RULES | Queensland’s new border pass system goes live on Sunday night

Article image for BORDER RULES | Queensland’s new border pass system goes live on Sunday night

Queensland’s border will re-open on Monday after the state hit the 80 per cent double dose vaccination rate, with the new border pass system going live just an hour before people can enter the state.

Queenslanders stuck south of the border will finally be able to return home, as well as travellers from hotspot areas will also be able to visit the Sunshine State.

But Queensland Police are reminding people that anyone entering the state from a hotspot area, such as NSW or Victoria, will need to complete a border declaration pass.

Fully vaccinated travellers can travel by road or air and can provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 PCR test in the previous 72 hours.

It’s been revealed that the new border passes will be only made available from 12am on Sunday night, one hour before the border opens at 1am.

On the Queensland government’s border pass application webpage, it states the new entry pass will be live at midnight on Sunday.

“The updated Queensland Entry Pass will be live at midnight Sunday 12 December 2021, if you are a Hotspot Traveller please apply after this time,” the website reads.

Police are also reminding people travelling by road that they are anticipating high volumes of traffic on Monday and Tuesday next week.

With long delays expected at checkpoint as police check for proof, locals who live in the border zone are being encouraged to download the XV pass.

Police recommend the following for people crossing road borders:

  • Ensure your border pass is printed and clearly on display on your windscreen
  • Do not attempt to cross the border without a valid pass as you will be turned around
  • Consider travelling outside peak periods and after Monday if possible
  • Plan for delays exceeding 60 minutes at high peak times
  • Remain patient and follow the directions of signage and officer’s directions
