‘No sense at all’: Doctor slams Gold Coast COVID parties

Medical practitioners are voicing their frustration at COVID parties reported to be happening on the Gold Coast.
The gatherings are reminiscent of chickenpox parties, where parents would intentionally expose their unvaccinated children in the hope they’d develop a natural immunity.
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Chair Bruce Willett told Mark Levy the parties make “no sense at all”.
“This sort of behaviour threatens to overwhelm medical services,” he said.
“They will get immunity to COVID but it’s not substantially better than getting the immunisation and at an extraordinarily higher risk.
“They will still be vulnerable to getting COVID down the track. At some stage, they will need a booster like the rest of us.”
