Ash and gas from the eruption of a giant underwater volcano in the Pacific Ocean has entered Queensland skies.

The eruption sparked tsunami warnings across the region, with Tonga particularly hit by the aftermath.

Weather reporter Justin Noonan told Neil Breen the skies might not look so blue in the Sunshine State today.

“This morning, if you look at the satellite image, some of that gas and ash has now entered Queensland.

“It’s quite incredible.”

He said effects were reported right across the globe.

“The sonic boom from the shock wave was heard all the way to Alaska!

“That’s around 6,000 miles or nearly 10,000 kilometres away from the volcano itself.”
