Police are moving to reassure the community that there are enough police on the beat, with many members isolating or exposed to COVID-19.

967 staff members are reportedly in isolation.

As the Omicron outbreak continues to peak, those numbers are expected to rise and more critically essential workers are thrown into isolation.

Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said police had planned for the disruption to numbers.

“We’ve seen probably around 1000 or so of our members every day being impacted in the isolation orders or being positive,” he told Scott Emerson.

“What we do is a very borderless approach, so we move our resources around and even change what they do on a day to day basis to make sure frontline, our first responders and the police out there in the community keeping our community safe are looked after and we keep those numbers up.”

He said many in the force were triple vaccinated and back to work after the 7 days isolation.
