A retired FBI investigator may have come as close as we ever will to answering a longstanding mystery from World War II. 

How the Nazis found Anne Frank and her family has remained an unanswered question, decades on from the end of the war.

But an investigation that spanned a number of years may have found the “most likely scenario”.

Emeritus Professor in History and Politics Ross Fitzgerald told Sofie Formica he believes it’s a very strong potential solution.

“[The theory] runs the line that a Jewish notary, a notary being rather like a lawyer who deals with contracts, … supplied the Gestapo with a list of addresses in Amsterdam.

“It’s important [to know] he did this to save his wife and family.

“He certainly didn’t name Anne Frank’s name.”
