An economic relief package is being rolled out for businesses and community groups across Brisbane.

Brisbane City Council has announced a $5 million grant to support businesses, sport clubs and community groups.

Annual fees and charges will be waived or refunded if retailers and clubs have already paid for the quarter.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told Sofie Formica foot traffic is down more than 50 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in Queen Street Mall.

“That’s just an indication of what’s happening right across the economy at the moment,” he said.

“When this is peaking, when people are staying away, they need the support right now.”
