Entering Queensland is about to be easier from this weekend with the state poised to drop quarantine rules.

Travellers who have received two doses of a recognised COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to enter the state via overseas flights without a mandatory quarantine period.

The change will be in place from 1am Saturday, January 22.

Nine News reporter Peter Fegan told Sofie Formica this isn’t like what was seen in NSW.

“Australian citizens can now travel across the world and return without going into hotel quarantine.

“But in terms of people coming in and holidaying in Australia, that’s still restricted – there’s only four countries that we have that in place with.”

Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Daniel Gschwind told Scott Emerson it was the “right time” for this change.

“At least Queensland has now joined the rest of the country in welcoming those people,” he said.

But he added he hopes Australia, and Queensland, reopens to the entire world by Easter.

“If we believe what’s being observed in some countries overseas, in South Africa and Europe, there is a peak and a flattening of the curve, then a decline of the infection rate.

“We would probably follow the same pattern.”
