Hundreds of thousands of Queenslanders are now eligible to receive their COVID-19 booster shots.

From today Queenslanders only need to wait three months after a second vaccine for their booster shot.

The wait time between receiving the second and third jab has been shortened from four months.

Vaccine coordinator, Acting Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy, called it “booster day” and said an extra 600,000 people can now get their third dose.

“So we know that there’s 1.2 million people in Queensland right now, who can come forward today and get their booster at any of our clinics, they can book in to their primary care their GPs or their community pharmacies.”

He said state run clinics accept walk-ins for boosters.

There were 240,000 booster shots administered last week.
