‘They’ve got a lot to answer for’: Ex Moreton Bay mayor slams CCC
Former south-east Queensland mayor Allan Sutherland was suspended from his role by Queensland’s Corruption and Crime Commission due to misconduct allegations and then cleared two years after the charges.
The former Moreton Bay mayor told Scott Emerson on 4BC Drive that he was ‘raw with emotion’ when he heard that a Commission of Inquiry headed by Tony Fitzgerald would begin from Monday.
“I was so happy. That’s what’s needed. Their behaviour is appalling, and the public of Queensland should have absolutely no confidence in that organisation whatsoever,” he said.
“They’ve got a lot to answer for. They’ve got a long track record. There’s something over 20 cases in the last year or two that they just haven’t got right.”
Mr Sutherland was suspended from his position in December 2019 at the Moreton Bay Regional Council after being charged on two counts of misconduct. Last month, Crown Prosecutor Sarah Farnden told the court that he would no longer be prosecuted and cleared the charges.
“I would be bitterly disappointed if I can’t put my cards on the table because I think I’ve got a lot to add to an inquiry,” he told Scott Emerson.
