Prime Minister Scott Morrison has pledged to drive down the unemployment rate to a 50-year low, “with a three in front of it”.

Neil Breen said the claim was “bullish”.

But Federal Employment Minister Stuart Robert said the Reserve Bank was forecasting an unemployment rate of 3.75 per cent.

He said every Australian who wants a job, can get one.

Asked by Neil if underemployment was a problem, particularly in hospitality, Mr Robert said it was on the way down.

“It’s getting a lot less of a problem, and coming down substantially every month of course we track the employment numbers … we track all of those.

“The key thing is, Australians who want to work, there’s every opportunity for them, and there’s no excuse for people not wanting to work if they want to.”
