The renewed push to vote on bringing back daylight saving in QLD

It’s been 30 years since Queensland’s daylight saving referendum took place, and now there are renewed calls for a new vote to decide once and for all.
The Sunshine State is the only eastern state that doesn’t adjust time zones.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has re-ignited the debate, calling for a new referendum on introducing daylight saving time to Queensland.
He says a significant number of Queenslanders weren’t old enough to have their say in 1992.
Dr Thomas Sigler, senior lecturer in human geography at the University of Queensland, said if a referendum was held today, he believes a majority would support introducing daylight saving.
“I think there’s a strong argument to be made for alignment with the southern states, there’s a lot of business that happens interstate ranging from the airline to routine business that occurs across state lines,” he told Scott Emerson.
“But I think there’s also a lifestyle argument to be made, and a geographical argument to be made.”
He said another possible idea was to have two different time zones, to follow the NSW model.
