Romy Teitzel will lead the inaugural Newcastle Knights NRLW team, and she says she’s excited to showcase the talent and diversity of the squad.

After a year of setbacks with COVID and lockdowns, she says the first game couldn’t come soon enough.

“It’s very exciting, obviously the inaugural team here in Newcastle and such a strong fan base here,” she told Peter Psaltis on Wide World of Sports.

“Very excited for myself and all the girls debuting to get out there in front of them and give them a show.”

She said the women’s game was growing at a rapid pace.

“I think it’s just a mater of time before most of the NRL teams have a women’s campaign underneath them.”

Many players at the club will make their NRL debut this weekend.

“No one really knows what’s coming out of Newcastle and a lot of girls will be making their NRL debut which is very special!”
