A Sunshine Coast farmer who became stuck neck-deep in floodwaters is thanking his lucky stars he was rescued.

Justin Schooneman woke up to his bed rocking in floodwaters on Tuesday night.

He told Neil Breen it took a few hours to be rescued as emergency services “tried valiantly” to reach him.

“I just pretty much stood in water for four and a half hours because I had nowhere to go,” he said.

“The water level inside the house was about four inches lower than outside so eventually the pressure just blew the door off.

“My dining table came floating through loungeroom … so I popped the dogs on that, actually, and gave them some high ground.”

While Mr Schooneman and his dogs survived, his possessions couldn’t be saved.
