Qantas has announced its half-yearly results, showing underlying losses of 1.28 billion. 

It’s the fourth consecutive loss for the airline after coronavirus variants put a dent in consumer confidence.

Chief Executive Alan Joyce told Ray Hadley it’s been a rollercoaster six months but things are looking up.

“We’re seeing this real rebound in domestic.”

The Prime Minister’s announcement that Australia will reopen to tourists has also helped intakes lift.

“Last week and the week before, we’ve seen the best intakes since February 2020 so it is happening.

“Internationally, people plan a little more in advance … so they’re not going to come in the next week.

“It’s going to be more in the middle of the year, more into the northern European summer, where a lot of people want to take their holidays.”
