4BC FOLLOWING THE FLOODS | On the ground at Tingalpa, Hemmant and Bulimba
Peter Psaltis has returned to Brisbane streets this morning, this time visiting Tingalpa, Hemmant and Bulimba.
The Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club is still drenched.
“They’ve got a big clean-up scheduled for tomorrow here, weather permitting,” he told Neil Breen.
“And boy oh boy they’re going to need it as well.”
But even after a working bee, it could take some time for the club to reopen.
“Once they get everything clean, it’s all the electrical repairs that are going to be needed here.
“Some of these clubs are going to be out of action for two weeks, up to a month because there will be no lighting and no refrigeration available.”

Psalty visited Bells Pure Ice at Hemmant, where the owner, Tony, told him they lost around 40 ice freezers, which were swept away from servos by floodwater.
“Every second phone call is from a service station or a convenience store … saying: ‘Your icebox is underwater and we need to get it picked up and fixed and back there as soon as possible’,” Tony said.

Bulimba stayed reasonably dry during the floods despite being in the firing line during previous crises.
Joanna from Place Realty told Peter it looks like work on the banks of the river has worked.
It means the team at Place was able to lend a hand to the Graceville-Sherwood pocket.
“They’ve come in, they’ve made sandwiches, they’ve got cold water, they’ve gone and gourneyed mud, they’ve demolished, they’ve filled up skips…
“They’ve done anything that possibly anyone wants and I’ve been very proud to be a part of the Place family this week.”
