Why catching a rideshare lift will cost a little more from tomorrow
The price of rideshare will increase tomorrow as the Ukraine-Russia war puts strain on global oil supplies.
Western nations’ sanctions against Russia mean the world’s second-largest oil supplier has been cut out of supply chains.
It’s created stronger competition for oil from other sources, with many countries now paying a premium to secure supply.
Uber has responded by bumping prices by an extra six cents per kilometre.
Rideshare Drivers Association of Australia Secretary Les Johnson told Neil Breen the change will “hardly cover the cost” of higher fuel prices.
“Apart from this six cents per kilometre surcharge, there’s been no increase in rates for the last four or five years,” he said.
