Boggo Road Gaol historian ‘anxious’ for uncertain future as development halts tours
The historian at the site of the old Boggo Road Gaol is anxious to hear if the famous ghost tours and experiences at the site will run again.
A development being built next door means the tours will be forced to close for numerous months.
Boggo Road prison historian, author and tour guide Jack Sim says they are “very worried”.
“Between the jail and the modern eco-sciences building there’s a slither of ground there that’s being re-developed into a new retail and dining precinct,” he explained on 4BC Drive.
He says they were expecting to close for safety reasons while the development was taking place, at the request of the state government.
The last tours are on Sunday 27 March and they won’t run for at least 6 months.
He says he has built the business up in 20 years, and they’ve “hit their stride” in recent times, and they were feeling uncertain as to what the future holds.
“It’s taken a lot to build that up, and we are all very worried, my staff and I.
“What we do is really quite unique and special, take expertise … to know that history.
“I am anxious to get some certainty, that what we have built, remains.”
