The face of Brisbane will undergo a massive change in coming years under a landmark deal. 

The $1.8 billion City Deal will launch a 20-year pipeline of infrastructure projects in the south-east.

Among the new projects will be funding for a $190.5 million green bridge connecting Kangaroo Point to the CBD and a $250 million ‘Liveability Fund’.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison told Neil Breen the deal’s main focus is on improving liveability in the south-east and boosting jobs of the future.

“It’s everything from waste management to improving local amenities, to major transport infrastructure, particularly out there at the Gabba hub,” he said.

“We’ve got our [Olympic] infrastructure partnerships … and we’re sticking to that deal.

“This south-east Queensland City Deal comes in and connects to that deal in, I think, a really positive way.”

Urbis Group Director James Tuma told Sofie Formica there’s some work to do around the precision of implementing ‘liveability’ improvements.

“There will be a lot of work to do to define  precisely what the projects and so forth might be,” he said.

“But it does more or less what it does on the tin, which is to say improving the quality of life for everyone in south-east Queensland.

“So you would expect to see investments in parks and open spaces, in cycle networks and active transport infrastructure, … possibly also community facilities.”
