Business owners in Toombul Shopping Centre have spoken of the long road of recovery ahead, as the retail hub assesses the damage and begins the mammoth clean-up ahead.

The centre owner’s parent company, Mirvac, confirmed the centre will remain closed for at least six months.

One of those impacted was butcher and owner of A Place 2 Meat, Barry Herman, who says the water was around one metre high in the shop.

It’s damaged display cabinets, freezers and more, leaving behind a “hell of a mess”.

“At the end of the day it’s a pretty big job we’ve got to do.”

He says while Mirvac have been great, the damage to not only the shops but SEQ was very widespread.

“To be a realist, I believe it will be probably more closer to the 12 months.”

But he’s certain he will re-open, he says he feels he owes to his regular customers and getting the shopping centre back to where it was.
