Health Minister responds to QLD’s mum’s desperate plea for help for her daughter
Queensland’s Health Minister has defended the public health system in the wake of a Queensland mother’s desperate plea for help first raised by Mark Levy.
The story of a Anna Dean and her daughter, Rose, aired this week on 2GB and 4BC Mornings.
Anna is convinced her daughter is suffering from a neurological condition far more severe than her autism diagnosis, and she has been pushing to see a neurology specialist.
She says referrals to Queensland Children’s Hospital specialists, who may be able to help Rose, have been repeatedly knocked back and left Anna in a state of desperation.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath called in to respond to the issue on 4BC Drive.
She says she understands her parents were hoping to have her assessed.
“I am aware since the issue came to our attention, that the Queensland Children’s Hospital has made an appointment and she is actually going to the neurology outpatient clinic, I think it’s the 29 of April she has that appointment,” she told Peter Fegan filling in on 4BC Drive.
“And she has an appointment at the Ipswich Child and Youth Mental Health Service next week.
“Our clinicians are working hard to meet the needs of the child and the family as well.”
She says the decisions around health care must be decided by clinicians, not politicians.
Ms D’Ath says she would be open to talking to the family.
