A car carrying some of the Prime Minister’s security detail has crashed in Tasmania.

Two federal police officers and two Tasmanian officers were involved in the incident at Elizabeth Town.

They’ve been transported to hospital but aren’t believed to have sustained serious injuries.

Scott Morrison said in a statement he’s grateful for the work of his protection staff and is wishing the officers a speedy recovery.

4BC federal politics editor Michael Pachi was travelling with the Prime Minister’s campaign as the incident occurred.

Initial investigations by Tasmania Police have indicated the crash occurred when a Mitsubishi Triton attempting to merge collided with the rear of the police detail.
