An ousted business owner has described the treatment of Toombul tenants following February’s floods as ‘appalling’.

Property developer Mirvac will bring plans to redevelop the site forward, arguing damage the centre was too great to repair.

Tina Worland owns Antica Home, which was operating on the bottom floor of Toombul Shopping Centre before it flooded.

She told Neil Breen while she was lucky enough to have flood coverage in her insurance policy, a lack of valuable communication from Mirvac made recovery difficult.

“[Mirvac was] being optimistic but they were not giving us any answers so it was very hard to know what to do.”

Ms Worland has since reopened her store at Market Central in Lutwyche but said she’s “absolutely appalled and heartbroken” for other Toombul tenants who were left “destitute”.

“I didn’t realise what they were being told may have been different to what we were being told.

“I’m totally, totally gutted for them and I really feel for them in the situations they’re in.”
