‘Jolt into reality’ needed over Labor’s energy policies, Peter Dutton says
The Opposition Leader claims higher power bills are on the horizon under the federal government’s climate and energy policies.
Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers yesterday said a “perfect storm” has brought about a spike in energy prices and warned cost-of-living strains will continue for some time.
“There is no point mincing words about the sorts of conditions that we have inherited,” he said.
But Peter Dutton insists Labor will only drive energy prices higher in a pursuit for green energy.
“Labor and Greens have been opposed to discovery of new gas fields, so you don’t have that extra supply coming into the market exactly at the time that you would need it,” he told Ray Hadley.
“People are going to have to brace themselves for what electricity prices are going to be over the next three years, given Labor’s energy policy.
“They don’t want you to use electricity and that’s why they’re pricing it higher and higher.”
Mr Dutton said the nation needs “a frank, sort of jolt into reality” about the direction of Australia’s energy policies.
“I really think Anthony Albanese has to explain properly to the Australian people what he’s proposing here.”
