The state’s health system is tipped to receive record funding when the budget is handed down next week.

Queensland is in the grips of a health crisis, with union members claiming at least 250 new paramedics are needed each year to keep up with growing demand.

AMA Queensland President Maria Boulton told Neil Breen she has made pre-budget submissions, including around hospital capacity.

“We’ve suggested that we’re short by 1500 beds across the state,” she said. “We know that’s going to take some time to build up to those levels.

“Each bed needs staff and each staff member needs to be trained for years and years.”
