Social media hackers target Brisbane woman’s Instagram, swindle thousands
A Brisbane business owner and Instagram influencer has shared her story of how her followers were swindled out of money and targeted by sophisticated hackers.
Anna Van Dijk runs the lunchbox_mini Instagram page and has over 28,000 followers.
Unfortunately she was scammed, her account was locked while the hackers took over her page.
The hackers, posing as Ms Van Dijk, told her followers to invest a scheme.
Around $24,000 was lost from her followers.
“I had no idea I could not have predicted I would be in this case,” she told Neil Breen.
“It’s real and it happens, and they are pretty awful, to be honest.”
She said her account became the hackers’ “playing field”.
“The more active and engaged you are on an Instagram platform, you are their bread and butter.”
She has since been able to get her account back.
