Why Neil Breen predicts there’s a ‘strike season’ ahead for Queensland
Neil Breen has predicted Queenslanders will see rolling strike action for the rest of the year with the government under increasing pressure over public sector wages.
It comes after the Albanese government backed a 5.1 per cent wage rise for the lowest paid workers, in line with rising inflation.
But Neil said with Queensland’s “enormous public service” the state government could be backed into a corner on wages.
“Unions in Queensland are gearing up a wages battle royale,” he said.
“There are currently 24 public service agreements expiring this year, including for nurses, teachers, police, firefighters, doctors and paramedics.
“Today is the day I am predicting we are set for series of strikes right across this state until the end of the year.”
