Toddler dies from COVID-19 at Queensland Children’s Hospital
A Queensland toddler has died from COVID-19 at just 23 months old, becoming the youngest in the state to die from the virus.
Queensland Health issued a statement confirming the child died on Sunday at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
It comes as new modelling predicts the state’s current third wave of the virus will peak at the end of August.
Hospitalisations due to the virus are expected to reach 1,660.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the government is preparing for the surge with extra beds, virtual emergency department presentations and more frontline staff.
