Redland Mayor Karen Williams pleads guilty to drink driving charges
The Redland City Mayor has escaped conviction and a fine after pleading guilty to drink driving in June.
Karen Williams was more than three times over the limit when she crashed her car on the evening of June 23.
The Mayor admitted to having several glasses of wine before she got behind the wheel, having handed down council’s budget only hours earlier.
Ms Williams pleaded guilty to drink driving as she appeared in court today, where she had her license disqualified for six months.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta said there would be “a small number of very hurt people who will never forgive” her.
In addition to the disqualified license, she’s been ordered to 80 hours of community service.
