How business has changed at the Queen Street Mall in 40 years
It’s been 40 years since the Queen Street Mall first opened in Brisbane, and it’s certainly been an eventful few decades.
There will be some activities in the CBD this month to celebrate the mall’s birthday, and a street party on August 26.
The mall first opened in 1982.
The owner of Rocking Horse Records, Warwick Vere, says they’ve evolved over the years, too.
“We have had a wonderful ride with the global vinyl revival,” he told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.
Interestingly, he says they are getting young kids in too now!
He says the mall is incredibly busy at the moment after lockdowns and restrictions saw a steep decline in foot traffic.
“There always seems to be something on, we are quite grateful for that, but we are almost in the bulls eye of the city almost in King George Square.”
Apparently there used to be tram tracks on the site!
