Police commissioner responds to criticism of seconded police in Fitzgerald probe
Police commissioner Katarina Carroll has weighed in on the Fitzgerald inquiry’s recommendations of the way seconded police work within the Crime and Corruption Commission.
Tony Fitzgerald and Alan Wilson handed down their report into the operations of the CCC this week, in what’s been described as a “health check” for how the structure of the corruption watchdog.
The report recommended the agency rely less on seconded police, and instead employ civilians with the necessary skills.
Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll has been briefed on the report.
“In the end I thought they were quite considered, because they still say police need to be maintained there, we need to maintain our hours,” she told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.
“Where the criticism came was around police looking at corruption investigations more as a law enforcement approach, rather than a very, very broad perspective particularly in corruption because they are extraordinarily complex.”
