‘Gilt-edged sword’: The difficulties in slashing the COVID isolation period
Neil Breen says it’s almost certain the COVID-19 isolation period will be cut to five days after state and federal counterparts meet for National Cabinet.
But, he says, every Australian must be responsible.
“I know it’s being done for economic reasons, because there are severe labour shortages already,” he said.
“I have to say this, having had COVID five weeks ago, I know we have to move on with our lives … I reckon I’d have been infectious on the fifth day.”
He said it’s a “gilt-edged sword” for workers and employers.
“OK, let’s cut it from seven to five and get more people back to work quicker, but what if they come back to work and knock people out?”
But he predicted by the end of the year, there will be no mandate.
