QLD misses out on key health partnership announced in NSW, Victoria
Queensland has missed out on a key, bipartisan partnership between Victoria and NSW to establish 50 urgent care clinics to ease the burden on the public health system.
The major health partnership will see 25 clinics in each state, which will be opened progressively from next month.
The clinics will be free and will operate for extended hours, near existing hospitals.
Chair of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in Queensland, Dr Bruce Willett, said Queensland should be involved.
“We would love to see something like this rolled out in Queensland,” he said on Brisbane Live.
“So the key thing in the Victorian and NSW decision is rather than building whole new hospitals … it’s to actually leverage off the existing infrastructure that exists in general practices around the community and assist those general practices with being able to stay open longer and provide additional hours.”
