A Brisbane councillor has slammed the flood mitigation measures ahead of the predicted spring and summer deluge, with some storm drains still blocked six months on.

Independent councillor for the Tennyson Ward, Nicole Johnston, represents Tennyson, Chelmer, Corinda, Fairfield, Graceville, Sherwood, Yeerongpilly, Yeronga and Oxley, all which flooded in February and March.

“I am as annoyed about the situation as you are, and the fact that [council] gave themselves a pass when it’s an epic fail, is just rubbish,” she told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.

She said the storm drains hadn’t been cleaned.

“We are following up on two today in significant flooded areas that at still blocked, post the February floods, one in Yeronga … and the other in Logan Avenue ,Oxley.

“Council is aware of them, they are know they are a problem.

“But there is no timeframe to actually clean them out and make sure they are functional and available for the predicted wet season that’s coming, getting a timeframe out of them and action out of them, is appalling.”

She said many residents were desperately waiting for answers.

“In my area, hundreds and hundreds of [the houses are in disrepair].

“People desperately waiting to buyback, who want to raise.”

She said it was moving far too slow and people were in distress, stuck waiting for the state government and council.

“It’s taking way, way too long.”
