The identity of sperm and egg donors could be made available through a register, following a new recommendation.

The Legal Affairs and Safety Committee has decided it is important for Queenslanders conceived through sperm and egg donations to be able to access their donor’s identity.

Neil Breen broke the news on Brisbane Live yesterday, and was flooded with calls, texts and emails from Queenslanders wanting to share their stories.

One of them was Jason from Helensvale.

Jason, 53, found out that he was adopted at age 12.

“As the years went on, I asked my adopted parents more about my natural family, and all they had was a couple of documents from The Salvation Army,” he told Neil Breen.

He searched for them for 40 years, and it turns out, they were searching for him too.

“Everyone who I talk to about it, they say that’s amazing.”
