Tens of thousands of families are urged to keep their kids home today with hundreds of childcare centres expected to be impacted by a “shutdown”.

Many centres will close for the entire day, while others will shut early for workers to rally for reform in the early education sector at 3pm.

The strike action will impact more than 50 daycares in Queensland.

“Of course, the reason for this action is pay and conditions,” Today reporter Mia Glover told Laurel, Gary & Mark.

“The union says the industry is basically at a crisis point at the moment and educators are starting to leave the sector in record numbers.”
