Chris ‘Choppy’ Close is encouraging Aussies to check in on their mates and ask if they’re doing okay today.

The rugby league legend told Laurel, Gary & Mark it’s important we “walk the walk” and support struggling friends.

“It’s really important we look after our friends, particularly with recent events, what we’ve seen,” he said.

Choppy said the ‘old-school way’ of expecting young men to ‘toughen up’ needs to be kept in the past.

“We need to be more aware of what we can do, the damage we can do.

“We need to go the other way and really make an environment for people to feel comfortable, [where] they can speak up.

“And if they feel bad, and feel like they’re getting overwhelmed, then allow them to speak up and get the help they need.”
