Devoted Brits and tourists are continuing to queue for hours to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II lying in state.

Science editor at The Times in London, Tom Whipple, was 22nd in the line and was among the first group through Westminster Hall.

“One of my fellow campers said ‘well she reigned for 70 years, so we can put up with a bit of rain for 24 hours’,” he told Neil Breen from the UK.

He said there was a sense of timelessness inside the hall.

“You go in and it induces solemnity, it was a powerful experience, and an experience I will remember [this] for the rest of my life.

“It’s a little bit of history.

“I think a lot of people in the queue now; they are there because they know they are experiencing history.”
