King Charles escapes to Scotland to privately mourn mother’s death
King Charles III and the Queen Consort have flown to Scotland to mourn the loss of his mother in private.
Senior members of the Royal Family will stay out of the spotlight in coming days as the formal period of mourning continues until Monday.
The King is unlikely to perform any official duties and will spend time at Balmoral, including at his private home on the estate.
UK correspondent Adam Gilchrist told Spencer Howson there is a “practical element” to heading to Scotland.
“Maybe ultimately, Charles has to go sort out his mum’s stuff. That’s what you have to do, isn’t it?
“As well as going through the grieving, emotional period; he’d probably rather do it in Scotland, away from the rest of us.”
