The owner of a well-known restaurant along Eagle Street Pier says this weekend will be the eatery’s last.
Jade Buddha is the only restaurant still open on the soon-to-be-demolished pier, after refusing to close to make way for a new development.
Phil Hogan, who has run the business for almost two decades with his brother, says the restaurant is calling last drinks after finally being issued a notice to quit by landlord Dexus.
“We considered whether or not we should challenge it, whether it’s valid, that’s questionable,” he told Neil Breen.
“I’d say it’s the end of the road for Jade Buddha.”
But the restaurant owners already have another venture underway — they’re opening a fried chicken joint!
“We’ve actually got a new venture three-quarters fitted out … in the valley, where Johnny Rockets has been. We took it over, we’ve been refitting that and it’s due to open in about a month,” Mr Hogan said.
“We want to be to premium fried chicken what Gilled is to burgers.
