More than a thousand Paddington Bears and other teddies left in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II will be donated to charity, Buckingham Palace says.

The stuffed toys were left among floral tributes at royal residences and parks following the monarch’s death on September 8.

They will be given to Barnardo’s, a children’s charity of which Queen Elizabeth was a patron, until it passed to Camilla.

“Bernardo’s looks after orphaned children, or children in bereavement, or troubled children in all sorts of ways,” UK correspondent Adam Gilchrist told Laurel, Gary & Mark.

“And, as the charity put it, ‘The perfect future for the bears, to be loved by children who are in need of love themselves’.

“Surely the Queen would’ve approved of that, Paddingtons going in that direction.”

The palace said the bears are currently being stored at Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and in the Royal Parks nursery, and will be professionally cleaned before donation.
