Sofie Formica has called out embattled Lidia Thorpe over an “ironic” aspect to the senator’s view on the Australian flag. 

Ms Thorpe was yesterday forced to resign as Greens deputy leader in the Senate after it was revealed she had failed to disclose her relationship with former bikie boss Dean Martin last year.

The senator made headlines in June for doubling down on criticism of the Australian flag, which she says represents “dispossession, massacre and genocide”.

“Can somebody please ask Lidia Thorpe if she has ever observed what the patch of the Rebels is?” Sofie asked on 4BC Afternoons.

“The patch of the Rebels, the gang her ex-boyfriend was a president of at one time, … their insignia is a Confederate flag with a cap-wearing skull and 1% patch in the centre.

“There is some irony that Lidia Thorpe takes issue with the Australian flag but is happy to date a guy, … that wore what is widely-considered to be the symbol of racism, hatred and oppression on his back.”
