Queensland records best ever ranking in state of the states report
Queensland has recorded its best economic report card results in 13 years, ranked second in the latest CommSec state of the states report.
Strong population growth and low relative unemployment have buoyed the economy.
The report takes into account economic growth, retail spending, unemployment, housing finance and more.
Commsec senior economist Ryan Felsman told 4BC News Queensland experienced better economic outcomes over the course of the pandemic.
“Queensland has benefited from not suffering lockdowns of the magnitude and duration of other states, particularly NSW and Victoria so there’s been less disruption in Queensland’s south-east due to lockdowns,” he said.
“But more broadly we have seen Queensland benefit from being an energy exporter with the energy crisis emanating from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”
The ACT came in third spot, followed by WA, South Australia, Victoria, NSW and the Northern Territory.
Tasmania took out top spot.
